ARE YOU OUT THERE?

We think you are out there.

We KNOW you are out there.

You're the high school, college athlete or parent, that LIVES and DIES for sports... 24/7/365.

Sports are more than just a ball, or bat, or racquet, or cleats.

For our family of writers, we may write using English, but SPORTS is the language. Our DIALECT.

Sports wakes us up in the morning, and puts us to sleep every night.

We want to hear from you... if you feel the same way.

    Where Are They Now ?

JON KONCAK
NBA Player - 12 Seasons

He made MILLIONS of dollars in NBA salary alone.

As a good-looking, articulate, down-to-earth middle America, personality, his trustworthyness made him an ideal spokesperson for local and national companies, enabling him to rack up millions of dollars more in endorsements.

Then after 12 grueling long NBA seasons, he exits, stage right... or was it left... and quietly announces his retirement.

But as "ELVIS" left the building, he did so quietly and through the back door. More importantly, and to the chagrin of his millions of fans nationwide, he left no forwarding address and has rarely been seen on Social Media.  Yes, he seems to have just disappeared.

THE PLOT THICKENS...
SO WHERE DID HE GO ?

How does that happen

Never seen him at a KC Royals game or KC Chiefs game...

Where... how... why... does a 7-footer just fall off the face of the earth?

He had family in Kansas City still, but somehow he must of snuck in and out the airport, or took private aircraft to smaller airports, as there seem to be no reports of KONCAK-IAN SIGHTINGS.

With little ego, some old timers say he was tired of 12 amazing but chaotic years in the spotlight.  Endless banquets, parties, groupies ... imagine that type of rock-and-roll lifestyle it would be incredible ... BUT FOR 12 YEARS ... NON-STOP ??

Remember, Jon also played for, and won a GOLD MEDAL for the USA, and his teammate was MICHAEL JORDAN... and they became good friends. So much so, that the two of them on several occasions just did regular guy things, meals and shopping, and Michael had barely come onto the national scene.

So it makes alot of sense, that he probably and quietly bought a ranch up near his Atlanta Hawk owner Ted Turners' ranches in the Pacific Northwest.

Ted Turner ranks #3 in the entire world on property owners listed on the USA - The Land Report, owning in excess of 2 million acres. He owns land across the nation, so that he can create his own private National Parks.

ARGUABLY the most successful and highest paid professional athlete raised in Kansas City, Missouri ... Jon attended Center Senior High School, (87th & Holmes Road).

Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in May 1963, Jon grew very quickly as a child, and was required by doctors to wear a neck brace until high school, as his spine and neck were still developing the strength to support his 7-foot, 250-pound frame. Amazingly, between his junior and senior year, he grew nearly ______ inches.

After being aggressively recruited by nearly 200 colleges, due to his height and high I,Q. While hoping to stay close to home and play for Kansas University, a letter received by Jon from the head coach, in which his first name was mis-spelled JoHn, disappointed Jon, feeling that the coach didn't really know him well enough, and so Jon looked elsewhere to play.
Deciding on SMU, Jon became one of two Mustang players to have his jersey retired and one of two consensus basketball All-Americans. He led the team in all 3 of his final years of college, compiling a staggering 67-29 record for a school not known for being a basketball powerhouse.

The team spent the entire 1984-85 season in the Associated Press Top 25, reaching as high as Number 2 at one point during the season

His draft stock grew dramatically after two extremely impressive performances against two of the top college basketball players of his age, Ralph Sampson and Patrick Ewing.
While Jon was not quite the all around athlete, osthat basthe other two players were, the broadcast team believed that Jon's extreme intelligence allowed him to more than hold his own in these nationally televised games.

Because of his ability to intimidate shooters with his long body and arms, he became highly sought after by not only his own team, the Hawks, but also by the Detroit Pistons and the Boston Celtics.

A bidding war between the 3 teams and others occurred, driving up his value dramatically. After the bidding war for his services was over, and the (green - as in MONEY) smoke had cleared ... "SHOW ME THE MONEY" ... Jon walked away ... probably danced away, as an UNPRECEDENTED TOTAL CONTRACT of $13,000,000.00 dollars for a 6-year contract, which in the 1980's was almost unheard of.

The massive contract amount earned him the nickname of Jon "Contract" Koncak ... which at the time, made him the highest paid player in the entire NBA, even higher than Michael Jordan and Larry Bird combined, at the time.

Those two individuals, as did all the top players, began demanding that their contracts be renegotiated because of Jon's jackpot.
